I have a set of silverware that may be antique, but I know nothing about it.?
I have recently aquired a 52 peice set of 1847 Rogers Bros silverware. The name on the back is First Love. The only thing I have been able to find is that it is from 1937, but I dont know if that was the only year it was made or just when it was started. I also have a serving platter that is obvously very old, but the name is fading off the back. I looks like Blue Willow, but the marking on the back is an Eagle and thats all I can make out. If anyone knows anything about either, please let me know.
Replacements.com is an excellent source for information on china, crystal & silver. I went to their website, searched under "Rogers Brothers 1847", then found "First Love" & when I pulled it up, it said it was made by International (a lot of these companies are interrelated- for instance, I know Lenox china company now owns Gorham, Kirk Steiff, and Dansk, to name a few). Your pattern is silverplate and was manufactured from 1937 to 1973, at which time it was discontinued. Being in this timeframe, it would be considered "vintage" rather than antique. In knowledgable circles, antiques are considered to be at least 100 years old & and usually made before the era of mass production. As far as your platter goes, I'm sure you could email a picture it to Replacements & they could identify it for you, although I do not know if there would be a charge for such service. I have included a link to your silver pattern. Hope this helps!
