Why are my teeth so sensitive to sugar?
Every time I eat something sugary, especially orange chicken (honey glazed) or chocolate chip chewy granola bars, all of my upper and lower molars on both sides are excruciatingly painful.
My dentist said that it's because my enamel wore down and my dentin is exposed. He told me it was probably because of drinking cola. I really don't drink that much cola though (maybe a few times a week max), and he didn't tell me anything i could do to fix it. I used to smoke cigarettes and haven't always brushed as well or as much as I should have, but have been for the past year or so.
What is it, and what can I do???
P.S. Sensitive toothpaste is NOT WORKING!
Sensitivity to sweets a lot of times means cavities, but if you have it in all molar regions than perhaps you have exposed roots or the exposed dentin like your dentist said. If its the root issue, some fluoride varnish can help, or fillings placed on the exposed root. Have you had x-rays to rule out cavities? Ask your dr. about these 2 things, and continue to use the sensitive toothpaste until this gets resolved. Good luck!
