As a youngster, did you set the table for Mom?
No paper plates then, the kitchen table needed plates,silverware,drinking glass,for each person, plus-butter, salt and pepper,bowl if having soup or chili and a saucer with about 5 slices of bread on it. Of course I spilled my milk every day.
Yes, my brother, sister and I had to always set the table. Then, after dinner, we had to clear the table too, and we took turns doing the dishes too. My sister would wash, and I would dry etc.
Things were a lot more civilized then, in my opinion, and even though I complained as much as any kid would about having to set the table and do dishes etc, I know it was good for me. It was good for me to learn to work with my brother and sister and to learn to appreciate the hard work and time that went into preparing a meal and cleaning up after it.
I miss those days.
