A few poems written for an English project

Natural Love:

When I need to escape, I look to the sky

Reality’s a bitch, why can’t I fly?

Sometimes it seems far too high

The clouds keep their distance, maybe they’re shy.

When I need to relax, I look at a lake

The ripples, the waves – a perfect pattern, must be fake

It has a beauty that no man could make

Yet we’re polluting it all for goodness sake!

When I want to cry, I look at the trees

Daydreams spark; I’m standing in a forest with a pleasant breeze

I envy the animals that inhabit this place, the daydreams stop, I mustn’t tease

It will all be gone soon; we’re destroying nature like a disease.

I was born in the wrong time, I often think

I don’t like cars, pollution or wearing the colour pink

With each passing day I feel my heart sink

Nature is my one love she doesn’t care that my old bones clink.

War:

Armour piercing bullets shake the walls

Somewhere nearby death calls

With jittering hands he clenches his gun

Due to exhaustion it weighs a ton

His mind slips and his gun falls.

A sharp clash makes the men turn round

He searches their faces and fear is what he found

He sees their eyes sparkle with regrets

They must’ve forgot to say goodbye to their pets

A missile destroys the pillar and the building falls to the ground.

Fear:

We’re all merely puppets

Going through hoops and rings

They control us like muppets

While they live like kings

Who is this puppeteer?

Controlling these strings

Well the string is made from fear

And the man is many things

He is our slaver,

He is our God

Yet if we were braver

We’d expose him as a fraud

Throw off your chains

And free your mind

Ignore the pains

That leave you blind

I hope I’ve made it clear

We’re controlled by fear

About the Author

I was born in Ajax and lived there until my father got a job in Mexico City, which he accepted. I lived in Mexico for the majority of my life, since the age of 6 and we returned to Canada when I was 16. I'm Currently in my senior year and am currently planning on volunteering in South Africa to do human rights upon finishing high school for around a year, then returning to Canada to study journalism and the dream is to become a journalist.
