why wont my camera do this? photography question?
well i use a cannon powershot canon powershot a750
and i was trying to take a picture with the background out of focous, but everytime i tried this it would have the background unblurred (i want it blurred though for effect)
how do i do this, my camera has manul setting btw
so if the f speed and whatnot can be given it would be appriciated!

Compact digicams have very small sensors and lenses, which makes it very difficult to achieve a shallow depth-of-field. This is one of the main reasons why people upgrade to DSLRs.
The best you can do is:
1) Get your subject as far away from the background as possible. If they have their backs to a wall it will be almost impossible.
2) In aperture priority or manual mode, use the largest aperture (lowest f-number) your camera has.
