Can you think of a few premiership players who coached a league team and were pretty good at it?
I was reading an AFL history book, and one part I read,its states.. the 1983 Hawthorn premiership side holds the record for producing the most coaches from any one team.
Of the 20 players who took to the field on Grand Final day, 8 players later became AFL coaches. They were:
Peter Schwab (Hawthorn)
Terry Wallace (Western Bulldogs, Richmond)
Rodney Eade (Sydney, Western Bulldogs)
Gary Ayres (Geelong, Adelaide)
Gary Buckenara (Sydney)
Peter Knights (Brisbane, Hawthorn)
Leigh Matthews (Collingwood, Brisbane)
Ken Judge (Hawthorn, West Coast)
It then goes on to list 3 other players who have made careers in the media from that team, namely Russell Greene, Dermott Brereton and Robert DiPierdomenico.
Obviously some of those coaches weren't near as good at coaching as they were playing.

mick malthouse was a fair sort of a player for richmond but has turned into an alright sort if a coach for wce and collingwood.
at the moment these are all that i can think of.
but it would fair to say that the list that you have mentioned coming out of that very dominate era under alan jeans the ex stkilda coach and then alan joyce.
